Does this machine make life easier? Will it happen soon, do you think? Should I try to use it a bit more, and maybe then I can finish earlier some days? Maybe if not today, then soon? Can I just have a day off?
Will I get more done? Will the list of tasks I must complete eventually dwindle? Will I be left with a few minor novelties and diversions that I enjoy and can revel in at my leisure? Will I have more time to spend with my family and friends? Will I, after all these years, be done?
Will I get a promotion? Will I make more money? Will I build an app, even thought I don’t know how to? Will it get customers? Will it grow? Will it do so well I can cash out, retire, and live the life I’ve always wanted to? Or will I accidentally and unknowingly install a compromised npm package without realising it—or knowing what an npm package even is—and expose all my credentials and keys to a state-sponsored threat actor?
Should I stop using it? Should I ignore it? Should I take a stand? Should I read more articles about all those data centres? Should I read about the water usage? Should I give up? Should I just watch short form video instead to take my mind off things? When will I stop feeling so tired?
Will the demands that march, inexorable and infinite, from the boss, from his, from hers, from the board, from the shareholders, from the hedge fund, from the family office, from the oligarchs who own the world and decide our fate, ever slow down? Will they maybe, just maybe, ease off the gas for a goddamned fucking second?
Will I get to keep my job?
Am I mistaken? Am I not “pilled” in the right kind of way? Do you think I should be tokenmaxxing? Do I not get it? Should I be doing more with it? Should I apply to work for it? Should I give it all my data? Should I let my government give it all my data? Should I hop on the rocket ship? Should I trust that everyone has my best interests at heart? Am I enough?
When is it going to feel like things are getting better and better, and not just slowly worse and worse, while we’re watched over by the smiling titans of industry who imprint themselves more and more upon every facet of our lives, as they shepherd us, their flock, into what they say is inevitable?
What will it be like, do you think, when we reach the promised land?
Hello! It’s been a second since I emailed you. I’m Will Patrick. You probably subscribed because you read one of my posts: about a flat earth convention, or how to buy gifts people actually want, or because you read one of my book notes. I’m now posting blogs on my site again, and then sending them out again here on my newsletter.
